5月23日 May 15th, 2008Dear Emma,
Wow!!! Did it ever rain last night.... but it didn't matter, Jackie, Jenna (our new roomy) and myself, headed out to see Paris at night. It was beautiful! First we stopped for a traditional Parisian dessert.... Crepes! They take a crepe, spread nutella on it, smoosh bananas on it, roll it, warm it up and voila.... divinity!! Tres Magnifique!
After our dessert, we headed up the hill to see Sacre Couer. From this beautiful church we could see all of Paris. I took lots of photos for you to see "Sacre Couer".
With bottle of wine in hand (or purse), umbrellas, and sure will to travel within the rain, we jumped onto the metro and headed for the Eiffel Tower. The rain did not let up, but as you can see from the pictures "the Eiffel Tower at night" it was absolutely breathtaking to not only see the Tower lit up at night, but then to watch the flashing of the lights on the hour. The wine kept us a bit warm, however, we did get soaked.
We ventured back to the hostel and almost didn't make the last metro train. Paris metro stops at midnight! But nevertheless, we made it home safe and sound. I took some pics of the hostel "My Hostel - Village Hostel"
So today was my last day in Paris, France. I woke up quite early around 5am and started to pack. I had said good night to the girls last night and they were still sleeping when I left to catch my train at 7:24am for Germany. In Stuggart, everyone who was catching a connecting train, had to literally run with all their luggage for the next train.... it was quite an experience to say the least.... phew... what a run!!
I met a wonderful couple from Texas, who were on their way to Austria for a couple of weeks. They were very nice and we kept each other company from Stuggart to Munich.
I arrived in Munich about 1:30pm this afternoon and took a cab from the train station to my Hotel. The hotel is very nice and the room is perfect. I ironed my clothes, unpacked and then got changed so I could take in the sights of Munich. The weather here is a bit cooler and there is a fine mist - which really is welcoming from the hot weather in Paris. Now I can wear the rest of my clothes... LOL
I headed out to the Marienplatz area which is a pedestrian area filled with shops, restaurants, bier gartens, churches, businesses and everything else you could imagine. The photos are titled "Munich, Bavaria".
I walked around for about 4 hours taking in all the sights and found St. Peter's Church which is the oldest Church in Munich. The Hermer Building was stunning and the platz clock with the life size figurines was awe inspiring. I hoped that I would be able to see the clock chime, but was not that lucky. I did however, listen to a very talented young man play the grand piano right in the middle of the platz - now that was a Munich welcome for sure. Speaking of which.... I had an elderly Italian man who is now a resident of Munich, take my hands and welcome me to Munich with kissess both on the hands and on the cheek. It was nice.
As the darkness settled in around me, I started to head back to my hotel and came upon a Punjabi restaurant. Decided that this was a great place to have dinner and went in and ordered dinner. The restaurant was called Shere-Punjab and I had somosa's, tandoori chicken with rice and for dessert, galub-jamun's. It was very very good! Okay, so I have to come half way around the world to eat authentic Indian curry and let me tell you this.... I will be coming back!
Now with my tummy quite full and very satisfied, I am going to head for bed and get some rest so I can work out in the morning.
Have a good night sweetheart,
Love Mommy
