5月23日 May 17th, 2008Dear Emma,
Today I headed out of Munich and travelled on the Autobahn for Chiemsee. The autobahn was very fun and drivers were going very fast. We got up to about 200km per hour. I was very excited and thrilled. Here in Bavaria, the drivers are very careful and do not travel close together and give each other the respect that is needed on such a high speed highway. It was pretty cool... you would like it very much!
The scenery as you head out of Munich is absolutely beautiful. The Bavarian mountains were breathtaking and the countryside was exhilarating. I felt like a little girl seeing things for the first time. The weather is a bit cool and there is a fine mist on and off, but nothing could damper this excursion. Bavaria is stunning. The air is clean and the grass is sooooo green.
Chiemsee is a freshwater lake often called the "Bavarian Sea". There are three islands within the Lake which I was able to visit two of them by ferry.
The first island I visited was called Herrenchiemsee (also called Herreninsel gentleman island) which is the biggest island. The pictures I took are in the album called "Chiemsee". The laneways I walked lead to a castle built by Ludwig II in 1878. It was magnificent with its grounds and gardens and beautiful water fountains. The architechure of the castle itself along with the sculptures was very nice to see.
The island also had lots of trees which were covered in vines. I have never seen this type of vine and it was very complimentary to the tree itself adding a bit of softness to the sturdiness and strength of the tree trunk.
There were horse and buggy carts carrying tourists to and from the castle, very friendly ducks that would walk right up to anyone looking for food, even the swan within the Lake came right up to the docks looking for food.
We stopped and had lunch at the Bier Garten which provided us some cover during the heavier rain and we warmed ourselves with cream soups and bier. :-)
The second island was called the Frauenchiemsee (also called the Fraueninsel woman island) and is smaller than the first island and houses a Benedictine nunnery which was built in 782. There is also a very small village on the island and is inhabited all year round. The nuns run the church and also make cloister liquor and very good marzipan which is an almond paste.
On mainland, took in some of the sites before heading back to Munich. Stopped once to take some photos of the Bavarian Mountains and countryside. I love being in the wide open spaces. I just wish I could actually run through the fields and lose myself in this country.
Got back to the city okay.... I still like that Autobahn!!!! During the drive back, I remained in awe of beautiful Bavaria and can't wait to bring you back here one day. It is everything I imagined and more!
Met up with some friends and went back to Sphere-Punjabi or as we later called it Leone for some Bier and Galub-Jamun dessert. After a couple of rounds of Bier and some Ramazotti, we headed out to a Disco for the evening. Let me tell you.... I danced like I have never danced before. Nadine, my dancing partner, was fantastic and we had a great time. We went to a Techo bar first and then later to a hip-hop rock bar. The Disco's in Munich are all in one place, which make it real fun going from one to another. I stopped dancing around 5:00 in the morning. It was very good - lots of dancing, some bier and lots and laughing and fun!
Bye for now my little Angel,
