5月23日 May 20th, 2008Dear Emma,
Today I got to try Bavarian white sausage and pretzel... a traditional Bavarian breakfast. It was very good.
Took it easy today and was intending to venture to the Munich English gardens, however, it was very cold and it rainy. So, this excursion I will save for the my next visit to Bavaria.
So, jumped into a taxi and headed for Augustiner's. I was told it was a good place to go.
Walked into Augustiner's and headed downstairs to the dining area via the spiral staircase. It seemed liked forever before reaching the lower level. But wow!!! The restaurant was underground in tunnels made of brick and accented with wooden plank floors. The tables were about 10 to 12 feet long made of wood accompanied by wooden benches. The lights were low and the atmosphere, in my personal opionion was perfectly Bavarian.
It was around 4pm and it was here on my last night in Bavaria and Europe that I had my first Maas Bier. Very exciting.... I took pictures (see the album "Augustiner's")!! Prost! Which means cheers in Bavarian.
A cheese plate adorned with many varieties of cheese and a dish of thin slices of bacon (don't know what it is called) but very good and a basket full of fresh and warm pretzels was just the beginning of the fabulous dinner ahead.
My main entree was duck and pork roast with crackling, accompanied with potatoe dumplings, red cabbage and sauerkraut.... and not to mention Bavarian bier.
Games were played, bier was good - crowds came and went... and soon it was close to midnight.... and time to go home!
This evening was undoubtedly the most perfect night... a dream come true in more ways than one!
See you soon sweetie,
Mommy
